Building a sustainability strategy and inclusive software in the supermarket sector

The Challenge A Latin America-headquartered technology company specialising in digital solutions for supermarkets recognised that sustainability and inclusion were becoming decisive factors for its clients. While the company was committed to social value, it lacked a structured sustainability strategy to guide internal operations and product development. At the same time, clients were demanding software solutions that were more inclusive - for example, improving accessibility for people with disabilities and ensuring user-friendly design for elderly customers.

Our Approach ProcureStrategic Insight worked with senior leadership to design a sustainability strategy that embedded environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities into the company’s business model. This included mapping material impacts across operations and value chains, defining focus areas aligned with client needs, and setting measurable objectives. In parallel, we supported product teams in applying inclusive design principles to their supermarket software solutions after engaging with external stakeholders. This meant reviewing accessibility standards, identifying barriers for people with disabilities and elderly customers, and co-creating practical improvements that could be integrated into product updates.

The Impact The company gained a clear sustainability roadmap that strengthened its credibility with retail clients and investors. Internally, the strategy provided a framework to align teams and guide decision-making. Externally, the inclusive product design positioned the company as a forward-looking partner to supermarkets seeking to meet rising accessibility and ESG expectations. By combining strategy with product innovation, the company advanced both its social value impact and its market competitiveness.
